CAPABLE COMMISSIONS

Worship is at the center of our life together. The Worship Commission assists our rector, the Rev. Dr. Ann Lukens, in imagining ways that the changing sights, sounds, and actions of worship can form us as God's people. The Commission recruits and trains individual parishioners to serve in the many roles that come together each Sunday in the “work of the people,” that is the liturgy: greeters and ushers, acolytes, lectors, altar guild members, and worship leaders, as well as members of all ages who offer special gifts for music, drama, and other creative arts.

Spiritual formation for all ages is an important part of life at St. Michael's. Our Adult Formation Commission offers opportunities for adult parishioners to grow in a transformative relationship with God and a deepening engagement with the community of faith. Bible Study, book discussion, and seasonal programs nourish and sustain us on a lifelong spiritual journey.

Our Fellowship Commission takes the lead in organizing the many social events large and small that bring us together. Festive events throughout the year are listed under the Caring Climate tab.

Our Finance Commission leads us in responsible management of our monetary resources. Their diligent work ensures accurate record-keeping and reporting, a balanced budget, and the timely payment of all obligations.

Our Outreach Commission coordinates programs and activities that serve the Issaquah community in Christ's name. Some are ongoing, such as fall and spring bake sales that raise funds for charitable non-profits and weekly collections for the Issaquah Food Bank. Some are annual, such as the Messiah Sing-along that benefits the Issaquah community fund, the Christmas giving trees that gather gifts for low-income families, the teens’ Cell Phone Clinic that helps senior citizens tame their digital gadgets, and the mission trip to the Skagit Valley. And some are truly unique, such as the Wine to Water event that raised funds to drill a third world well, and Career Connection that teamed with the local newspaper and civic organizations to provide hospitality and job search resources for neighbors hard hit by the recession.

Our Properties Commission makes sure that our buildings and grounds are clean and well-maintained. Spring and fall work parties give everyone a chance to roll up their sleeves and pitch in either by wielding the tools or preparing the lunch. This Commission also takes the lead in assuring that our facilities continue to be adequate to house our growing congregation and ministries in the years ahead.

Our Stewardship Commission develops spiritual and practical resources for helping us dedicate our worship, work, and wealth to God. Be it in the form of Giving Time to God, or Giving Funds to God, be it within the church or beyond, faith-based giving is honored as a personal spiritual response.

Our Youth Formation Commission oversees our Nursery, providing loving and capable care for infants and toddlers in a bright and brand new space. An excellent Sunday School program nurtures the growing faith of our children. SCRIPT with the rector each month, seasonal socials and service projects, and the annual youth mission trip to Skagit Valley offer our teens opportunities for fun, friendship, and outreach.
